 We Are the Church
At Bethlehem, we believe what the ELCA teaches: the church is not a building — the church is the people God gathers, loves, and sends into the world. Every time we worship, serve, pray, sing, learn, or care for one another, we are living out what it means to be the church. The Northern Great Lakes Synod often reminds us that God works through ordinary people in everyday places — and that each of us has a part in God’s mission of love, justice, and hope. We come together from different backgrounds and experiences, yet Christ makes us one body. As Scripture says, “Now you are the body of Christ, and individually members of it” (1 Corinthians 12:27). Here on this page, you’ll hear from members of Bethlehem sharing what they love about worshipping here — the music, the welcome, the friendships, the sense of peace, the joy of serving, and the feeling of being part of something bigger than ourselves.
The church is not a place we go. The church is who we are — together — in Christ.
